Beyond the Diagnosis: Why the 2026 Independent Review Matters for Us
If you have been following the news lately, you’ll know that the conversation around neurodiversity in the UK is reaching a fever pitch. A major Independent Review into ADHD and Autism is currently underway, with the final results expected to land in Summer 2026.
As an autistic business owner, I’ve been watching this closely. For many of us, this isn't just about statistics or policy papers, it is about the lived reality of navigating a system that often feels like it wasn't built for our brains.
The "Postcode Lottery" and the Waiting Game
The review, commissioned by the Department of Health and Social Care, is tackling some of the most frustrating barriers we face. Currently, getting a diagnosis or accessing support in the UK is often described as a "postcode lottery." Depending on where you live, you might wait months, or even years, for an assessment.
The interim report, released in March 2026, highlighted a staggering reality: while our community is finding its voice and identification is rising, the systems meant to support us are under immense strain. The review is looking at how to move away from a "diagnosis-only" gatekeeping model and toward needs-led support.
Prioritising Lived Experience
What makes this moment feel different is the emphasis on lived-experience voices. For too long, decisions about neurodivergent lives were made without us in the room. This review is actively seeking the expertise of those who actually navigate the world with ADHD and autism every day.
It is a time of high advocacy. We are moving past the era of just "raising awareness" and into an era of demanding tangible reform,in our schools, our healthcare, and especially our workplaces.
Finding Our Own Solutions
While we wait for systemic change, many of us are already building the "scaffolding" we need to thrive. This is exactly why Roarganise exists. I know firsthand that when the external world feels chaotic or the support isn't there, having the right internal tools can make all the difference.
Whether it’s a sensory-friendly Roarganiser or a Workplace Bundle designed to ease the burden of a busy day, we are part of a growing movement of neurodivergent individuals creating our own solutions. We don't just want to survive the "waiting game"; we want to build lives that feel supportive and manageable right now.
The Summer 2026 results will hopefully mark a turning point for neuro-inclusion in the UK. Until then, let’s keep sharing our voices, supporting our local hubs, and finding the tools that help us find our flow.
Stay tuned for more updates as the review progresses. In the meantime, you can explore our full range of neuro-inclusive tools on our website www.roarganise.com
